i think....

now i have to confess that i am lost with trying to find what does what were, and when.
it simply is way above my head , so i feel really bad saying this….
But…
I think this looks a bit messy.

i'm wondering if it might help if… (can it be done)

the dates were in a different cell (with a back ground color)
and the event listing in a separate cell below it that have a minimum height. (so its square)
then most of the time it will be reasonably consistent.

just like the google calendar month view

I too would like square dates. Events should be one line long (they should go off screen, no scrolling), but when you hover, the description is shown. Hovering over the number should show the neat calendar thing and the events of that particular date (no description here, and hovering is impossible, I think).

Finally, there has got to be an easy way to make a span event that goes across several days… the only reasonable way now is to manually add tags.

Unfortunately, updating the month (for instance, when it reaches October) is manual.

How's this Phil?

I made all cells have the height of 60px. For days with too many events, the events are hidden until you hover over the cell.

IE6 is a different story, however; hovering is unsupported so the cells are stretched in height.

I made events look nicer by limiting them to one line and giving them a nice look. Good? Or was it better before?

Tell you what though. i have a feeling that when a lot of event are on the go, users are gonna get jarred off with the hover tips.

It doesn't seem to be a problem if all the boxes are the same. I figured something bad would happen if September shrunk especially with Mr. G's birthday which is enormously long.

Perhaps James knows how to create concrete widths?

CSS changes

I have changed the CSS structure of this site:

• The site's theme is where it was (css:theme)
• The CSS for the old calendars are now located at css:calendar-old. This CSS theme is applied to all pages of the site except for the new: category
• The CSS for the new calendar is css:calendar, and this CSS only applies to the new: category

The big question: Why?

Simply because the calendar CSS was getting unmanageable. It became ambiguous of which code is actually necessary to produce the newest calendar. Ideally, the less CSS required the better.

CSS is also very important for this calendar, because it should be the only place necessary for the user to customise the application. This means we can't have inline style attributes (Timothy!) for events if we want the end-user to be able to change the colours.

Yes, the user could modify their wiki page, but as you can see the code for this application is extremely large and complicated. We don't want the end user messing with the code and breaking things. CSS should be all they need to use.

Can somebody help?

I need to go now, but I left the css:calendar job unfinished. Could somebody fix it up?

Remember, there's always this old thing if you forget how things are (sort-of) supposed to look like.

I have updated the CSS a little so it looks similar to what it was. I hope I did it right.

This means we can't have inline style attributes (Timothy!) for events if we want the end-user to be able to change the colours.

Sorry! I have moved the style into the CSS now under class event.

One thing to note:
It looks pretty bad when shrunk at all. Is there a way to get each cell equal in width?
